To enhance the developments in the small-scale sectors there is a need for highly skilled mechanical engineers. Thus it is the responsibility of each technical institute to cater to the demand of engineers with global knowledge and practical experience. To meet the needs and challenges, the Department of Mechanical Engineering in Velammal Engineering College has a firm commitment to develop and produce erstwhile Mechanical engineers with the latest technical knowledge, good leadership qualities, spirit of competence and selflessness.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in Velammal Engineering College exists ever since the inception of the college in the year 1995 as a supporting Department to meet the requirements of the departments of EEE, ECE and CSE. It was established as a full fledged Department in the year 1999 with an intake of 30 students. The present intake to the branch is 120 students.

The vision of the department is to promote Personal, Professional and Technical development of student community with self-less spirit of service to the society. The department is aiming at the development of student community to face the future world with the latest technology, good leadership qualities and spirit of competence.
